gtx 480 or duel radeon 5850s

You could wait for the GTX 490, rumor has it that Nvidia isn't taking any more orders for the 470 because they are going to make a card using 2 470s to make the 490.
I doubt there can be a GTX 490. The current Fermi cards just take up too much power and produce too much heat to put 2 GPU's on one card. A card like that would have to be seriously underclocked with a big voltage drop to work. At that point it becomes pointless.

They're supposedly coming out with a g104 core which is supposed to reduce power consumption and the heat given off(not sure how much less heat/power)

Seems to me that the original g200 core's had the same problem

Ive always gone with Nvidia, But amd makes radion and I really like amd products. so if your on a budget go with that one. if u have some money to burn and want to go with the grade A one go with nvidia

hey, having trouble deciding on what to get, what do you folks think, the gtx 480 superclocked, or duel radeon 5850s, i was also considering duel gtx 480s. question though is that overkill? thanks

It really varies on what you want to do with two 26" monitors. I'm assuming that you'll want to play games on them, since you are looking at the very high end cards (5850x2/480.) So, assuming that the monitors are both running at 1920x1080p/1900x1200 therefore when you're gaming it will be at a resolution of 3840x2160/3800x2400. With all the latest games out at the moment ( for an example - Dirt2, BF:BC2, CoD Mw2, Crysis(Warhead/2) etc.) sadly most would probably struggle on a 5850, maybe even a 5870 at that resolution.

If I were in you're situation, I would grab an Asus ENGTX480 You don't really wan't to skimp out on a good brand in this price range, it would be such a shame that you had to wait 30mins on a phone line then end up talking to an indian lady that you can't even understand (trust me - it sucks.)

Evga has decent support, or so I've heard. And when I had to rma my asus maximus II board, the whole ordeal was a royal bitch...

Yup, eVGA does offer nice support. I've also heard BFG has awesome support. Their lifetime warranty is transferrable, basically means you can buy it second hand and they'll still give you support for it.

go with the single ati 5870 , they are like 400 dollars but they are good cards

I only have my nvidia because it was 200 dollars, I can max out most of my games, just not BF BC 2, which I run almost maxed out

cheers

well all i can say is buy the single best performing gpu in your price range, i would save up and get a 5970 myself....

i already got a 5850 and with a little modding i have it performing just under a 5870, i will crossfire mine soon but at the end of the day if i had the cash upfront i would have bought a 5870 and watercooled it and clocked the hairy stones off it
