can someone please help on server

i want to build a file server which can be access via online browsers
but i want it to be able to shut down and wakeup which would be the best software to do this, etc win2000 or xp or freenas all i need it for is storage nothing else:confused:

please help
 
Periods and capital letters are nice. And I think most any OS is capable of shutting down and waking up. Care to elaborate some more? Why not just use a copy of Linux with some HTTP/Web and FTP servers running?

Linux like which version would you say i know there so may version out there
but what would your option be

What I was thinking :)

Doesnt seem your requirement warrants going to hard out on a server/OS that only does something most can do for a reasonable price.

let us know some more details
