how do I get the most out of ATI's crossfire.

So I've had 2 XFX HD4850's in my desktop for quite some time now and I've noticed a slight increase in graphic performance such as slightly higher frame rate, slightly better effects such as water reflection and slightly less lag in games such as Crysis. Basically everything is slightly better. So is there anything that I can do in terms of crossfire settings or BIOS settings to make everything run great instead of just a little better?

overclocking can help as well. have you tried it/done it yet? what pci-e slots do you have on your motherboard? i am assuming one is 16x, but what is the other?

its gotta be both on pci-e 2.0 x16 for the best performance. overclock ur cpu and video cards for increased performance

not necessarily. lower cards like the hd 4850s do not require the bandwidth of two pci-e 16x cards. they are perfectly happy operating in 8x slots. there is almost no performance lost.

thats a good point. forgot about that. I am stuck in 5xxx series mode lol. for 5xxx series u definitely want them both in x16 slots

even then some cards still don't need the full 16x. the 57xx cards are fine with 8x. it's when you get to the monsters like the 5970s that you want the 16x.

5870's see some loss at 8x, but it's less than 5%. 5850's and 5830's see almost no loss at all at 8x.

Anyway, I would whipe and reinstall drivers and overclock your cards.
