Was Advanced Micro Devices the first manufacturer to Produce an 8-Core and a 12-Core central processing unit?

Opteron 6136 is an 8-Core Processor and the Opteron 6176 SE is a 12-Core Processor and they were both released on March 29, 2010.

AMD was the first to retail with the magny cours server chips awhile back...me and a buddy were talking about how a quad socket G34 board and some of the 12 core chips would make a nice folding@home bigadv rig, or a good rig for rendering(we're both into sketchup and kerkythea).

I am more impressed personally with the PCI Express Solid State Drives with 600 megabyte per second read speeds than I am with a 12-Core processor presently.
