DVD player is skippy; which of these drivers is the right one?

It depends. What is the DVD player, and what is your OS?

Windows XP
If I go into device manager it says:

"Tsstcorp DVD-ROM TS-H352C"

Hey part 2 of my question.

My dvd player does not burn dvds cds etc. I would like to just pull the damn thing and get a new one that will burn dvds and cds. I don't know whats commpatible or how to check and I don't know what a good dvd burner is.

I would like to use bestbuy if possible. Would this one be compatible?

Thanks for your help

For the first part, you shouldn't need a driver, as it is an optical drive, from what I have read. And I am not sure about the compatibility. I have a usb dvd drive that I like. But I would just hold on and let someone help you out. Is your computer a laptop or desktop though?

Also, on the site, it only has intel, ATI, and NVIDA. So I am not sure.

EDIT- Nevermind... you have the computer in your first post. I will check compatibility soon, I have to go now.

As far as your DVD player being skippy, that can often be attributed to your graphics drivers/hardware or the program that you're using to watch the DVD rather than the DVD-ROM itself. You might try reinstalling your graphics drivers and then using VLC Player to play the DVD.

However if you still want a new drive that can burn CDs/DVDs, you'll want to buy from Newegg. Much bigger selection and much better prices that Best Buy. Looks like you're computer has both SATA and IDE ports, so you'll want to get a SATA drive as it will perform better... any SATA drive will be compatible with your computer. This is is a good, reliable drive at a good price and great reviews.

if using sata on a optical drive the only advantages are that it is better for using more than one optical drive, and better calbling if your care about that sort of thing

a drive that writes at 16x on sata will still write at 16x on pata the same goes for reading hence meaning that read and write speeds are the same regardless

but the link provided is a good drive none the less

Correct, as optical drives are nowhere close to the maximum transfer rates provided by ATA133.
