No Phenom II quad can hold a candle to an I7 at ANY cpu intensive task.
i'll just put this out there i'll challenge anyone out there with a 3.6-4.2ghz phenom II to bench vs. my cheap i7 860 with the dual channel memory just to be fair. all results will be posted and verified.
I accept your challenge!
I just want to see how they compare, not really looking to beat out your system. What benchmark did you want to use?
and here's the link to my motherboard comparison for screenshots etc. we can do an intel vs. amd thread, i think it will make for better presentation than hijacking this one.

nice... maybe cinebench or PCmark? if you have an HD5850 or a GTX 260 192-core we can also do a round of 3dmarks. also, we can do superpi 1m for just raw speed comparison... here's what i've gotten so far with my i7 860...

Sounds like a good idea to me. I'll have to round up some of the benchmarks that you mentioned.
...Looks like it is going to take me a while. Internet at school is really slow today. I have cinebench 11.5 and PCmark 05 downloading now.
The Core i5 750 Quad-Core is one of the best deals out there in my opinion. A very powerful processor for $200.
I admit that I do favor AMD because I like having two manufacturers that keep pushing the bar up higher on microprocessors. Since Intel does have most of the market I buy AMD. I am not disappointed at all with the processing power of my Phenom II 940 Quad-Core Processor.
