Funny how some people are die-hard intel fans........ The X4 series are like 3 times cheaper and yet are only..... wel.... SLIGHtLY slower:good:

3x cheaper holy dooly this guy's having a laugh. :D but seriously though its up to you but the i7's are a tremendous processor.

The i7-930 is $199 at Microcenter, about the same price. The i5-750 is $179 and is also faster.

Both i7 and the i5 are actually faster. Forget the ratings given by AMD.

The Core i5 750 Quad-Core is one of the best deals out there in my opinion. A very powerful processor for $200.

I admit that I do favor AMD because I like having two manufacturers that keep pushing the bar up higher on microprocessors. Since Intel does have most of the market I buy AMD. I am not disappointed at all with the processing power of my Phenom II 940 Quad-Core Processor.

my 4.2ghz i7 860 would stomp a mudhole in that POS x4's ass and i paid $199 for it at microcenter. my 4.0ghz 930 would do the same. kthxbai amdtroll.

No Phenom II quad can hold a candle to an I7 at ANY cpu intensive task.

i'm talking about raw speed and Gflops.

you're barking up the wrong tree if you think that a phenom II will outbench and keep up with an i7, it might be able to handle an i5 at much slower clock speeds, but head to head with a comparable speed i7 the i7 will always win.

i'll just put this out there i'll challenge anyone out there with a 3.6-4.2ghz phenom II to bench vs. my cheap i7 860 with the dual channel memory just to be fair. all results will be posted and verified.

I accept your challenge!

I just want to see how they compare, not really looking to beat out your system. What benchmark did you want to use?

nice... maybe cinebench or PCmark? if you have an HD5850 or a GTX 260 192-core we can also do a round of 3dmarks. also, we can do superpi 1m for just raw speed comparison... here's what i've gotten so far with my i7 860...

here are the specs:

1156 setup
Intel Core i7 860 2.8ghz/8mb L3 cache/2.8GT/s
Gigabyte P55-UD4P motherboard
Gigabyte Radeon HD5850OC factory overclocked by Gigabyte
4gb Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600 CL9 in dual channel mode
2x WD Velociraptor 300gb in RAID 0
Coolermaster Hyper 212+ Heatsink
PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750w Power Supply
Lian-Li PC-7B with window

and here's the link to my motherboard comparison for screenshots etc. we can do an intel vs. amd thread, i think it will make for better presentation than hijacking this one.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I'll have to round up some of the benchmarks that you mentioned.

...Looks like it is going to take me a while. Internet at school is really slow today. I have cinebench 11.5 and PCmark 05 downloading now.

What an... in-depth comparison :D

okay i'll remote into my server at home and download the benchmarks for tonight.

Number 1 thank you. You are right, we do need at least two or Intel would not innovate.

Even though the i5/i7 win most comps they do not win by enough that most of us can tell the diff. If a game plays at 65fps or 63 I would not be able to tell. I do like Intel for CPU's and AMD (at the moment) for GPU's.
