Help me buying new comp!!

Hi, all

I finally got some money to buy a rig! My budget will be around $800 USD.($750-$850 USD)

I will buy parts at either Fry's in chicago, or newegg.

I will be using it for gaming. (GTA4, SC2, CSS, well, most of games.)

I have not made decision on CPU and GPU.

CPU

i5 vs phenomx4 vs phenom x6
(is phenom x6 worth buying?)


GPU

I don't really know what to buy.... I can spend around $150-$200 USD


so... what you guys thinks? any suggestions? I will post up my parts after some suggestions. Thanks all!
 
First off if you only play games the x6 is not worth it. I don't think any games out support 6 cores, and I think only the newest games support 4 cores.

Now what all do you need? Do you need monitor, operating sytem, case, etc..? Much easier to get a build posted if we know what you need.
 
GPU - 5770
CPU - i5 750 would be better for gaming, but you probably looking around $850-900 (including OS)

Or, its not on their website, but ask/look for for the "i7 875k", its on sale at microcenter right now for $199, its got an unlocked multiplier on it.

I won't need OS/Monitor/mouse/keyboard/speakers.

I got windows 7 from school, and has everything else.

I plan to spend $100 on RAM(G.Skill Ripjaw 2Gx2 I guess),

$70 on HDD (500GB or 640GB maybe? still too much tho, I saw 1TB Samsung model)

$20 ODD (LG most likely)

$100-$130 Motherboard .

Radeon 5830 is a bit expensive than I thought...

Well, that i7 information is interesting !!

Should I buy case fans/ CPU cooler? or any other cables?

This is my first time building a comp and im scared.
 
Don't get the 930...it won't work on a P55 motherboard. Other than that, I think you're good to go.

Personally, though, I'd want a case with better ventilation for a system like that. Something with a bottom-mount PSU and fans on the top.
 
The 930 is nearly the same as the 830, the only way you will see an advantage to going with the 930 is if you plan on using triple channel memory, which would add another $50 to memory, and then you would need another motherboard, and the cheapest X58 motherboard is the foxconn flamingblade at ~$150.

Your better off getting an i7 875k, microcenter has them for $199 right now in stores.

The antec 300 is a good case, i'm gonna merge your two threads as they are on the same topic.

It is not on microcenters website, as it appears to be a deal they are wanting to only be seen in their circulars. Call your local microcenter, my closest microcenter(mayfield heights ohio) had 21 of them in stock for $199, i think the deal runs until the 20th.

(Its an i7-860 btw, i think you combined the 930 and 860 together in your mind when typing that).

My antec 300 only came with the rear and top fan, you may want to pick up a couple more 120mm fans for the front intake. CPU fan if you plan to overclock. I don't know much about Intel and which fans work with them and good ones for the price and such. As far as case fans, that is a tricky one because everyone seems to have a different opinion on what is considered too loud and what is not. I got these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103052 and it isn't too loud for me (few extra for spares) My tri cool set on high sitting on top is louder than those. Then again i don't mind a little fan noise. Best thing probably is go ahead and got your stuff going...test the sound on low, medium, high with the fans that come with the case...then do a dba/cfm comparison to choose for yourself on which ones to get.
