pretty much as the title says

How would 8GB(4x2GB) of RAM work in tri channel?

does it utilize the triple channel?

ok so how man channels does it run if i run 4x2GB in a tri channel board?

like 4gb in 1st channel 2gb in 2nd channel and 2gb in 3rd channel?

that would be dual channel. cut 2 gigs and go with 6 in triple channel. 6 gigs of tri channel beats 8 gigs of dual channel

Yes, you can.

The fourth stick will be interleaved, so performance won't be as high as triple channel but still better than dual channel.

At first I thought it would be just asymmetric triple channel (ie. the 4th stick is single channel, the other 3 are interleaved) but I haven't found anything that says that's what will happen, only that triple channel is supported if channels a, b and c are populated with same size DIMMs.

How about you just buy a 6gb tripple channel kit and not have to worry about it? :o

In general, amount of ram > speed/channels but if you are never going to use 8gb of ram then just run 6gb in tripple channel.

If you are planning on doing this with the rig in your sig, you can't run tri channel as the 860 is socket 1156, which only supports dual channel
