Backup issue

In the near future, I plan to buy a 1TB hard drive for backup purposes. Since there don't seem to be any IDE drives, I'll need a new enclosure, or instructions on swapping memory portions and swapping them to another hard drive. But seeing as that isn't so easy, I'll stick to getting a new enclosure and 1TB drive for now. That said, I bought a refurbished Emachine a few years ago, and it isn't strictly compliant with the new SATA format so, to prepare for the inevitable, I need to know how to get a 1TB in an enclosure to interface with an older XP system. Thank you for your time.

hard drive caddy

i just bought a hard drive caddy. it is a enclosure that looks like a portable hard drive. opens with a switch and can take IDE and SATA drives, then plugs in with a usb cable. this is a very handle tool. i also use this for my modded wii.

cost me $60 and comes with a fan, drive stays nice and cool :)

i got mine from memory express if that helps

I use external hard drive for backup purpose, it is usb 2.0 and work with an any o/s no hassle, I think that is easiest way to go.
Best regards.

It's not that I disagree with that externals are good, but they tend to be expensive, and as I recall, they aren't really salvageable if something goes wrong with it. I do take care of my computer parts and accessories, but that doesn't mean that they won't break. On the other hand, an enclosure works about the same, but when I tried a sata before I couldn't get it to interface with my machine. The machine wouldn't accept it. If I did find the external drive I want at a decent price, I would buy it. For now, I have an idea of what I'm going to do.

squ1rr7y, thanks for the input on the fact that it can be used with a Wii, or does it have to be modded to work?
