Hard Drive Performance.

Just want to improve computer performance score in window7

Processor: 7.0
Memory:7.1
Gaming graphic:7.6
Primary hard disk:5.4 (ouch.)

This is what I have now.
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive


Which is faster hard drive?

1. Western Digital VelociRaptor WD3000GLFSRTL 300GB 10000 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

or

2. Western Digital Caviar Black WD1501FASS 1.5TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

Ill be honest with you...

So i have 3 hard drives running in my rig.
I got a raptor 10k for about 30 bucks, i think its like 30 gigs or something small like that, this drive is only for the os, and call of duty, everything else is on the 7200 drives, the difference i have noticed is about 8 to 10 seconds of the boot times, vs's the 7200. And Call of duty loads about 4 seconds faster(when waiting for the game to load map), eveything else, i cant tell...

So unless this is really bothering you, i wouldn't bother.
 
If you have a high budget I'd get a nice SSD and a larger storage drive. You can't beat the performance of SSDs. You can actually feel that the system is snappier. All programs you install on the SSD opens faster, and needless to say the system boots faster. Heck, I can open chrome, IM, skype and steam literally instantly the moment I log on.
 
i agree with MX...unless your really doing HDD intensive stuff, i wouldnt bother worrying about the harddrive score in win7

I agree, if you aren't constrained by your budget an SSD is the way to go. Otherwise, as said above the raptor will be faster than the 7200RPM drive.
 
Raptors are faster, but they're also quite loud, warm and power-hungry compared to 7200rpm drives, not to mention the abysmal capacity.

Then, on a side note: while I've been happy with WD's laptop drives, the very few caviars I've owned over the years are garbage (though I haven't owned one for years). The opinions on those things seem quite mixed, I've heard people curse them to hell but also know quite a few enthusiasts that swear by them.

As for the HD score: I wouldn't give much credit to the score Windows gives you. Hell, I don't give much credit to any benchmarks if I get to actually try it. If you're happy with how it works now, I wouldn't bother. If you really wany something faster, go SSD.

If you decide to get an SSD, do you research first, though - they're still pretty new technology and if you get a cheaper SSD based on impressive advertised transfer rates, you'll end up receiving a swift kick in your balls. I would recommend a "proper" SSD that focuses on low latency over throughput, as that's what makes them fast, not the burst transfer rates.
 
In while ago, I installed the better terrain pack graphic mod for Fallout 3, the graphic looks sweet without losing framerates.

The problem is when I exploring around ruin world, it get freeze for 1 to 2 seconds everytime when I exploring new place, it does bother me..

I do not care how loud the hard drive is cause my gaming video card is loud.
