Am I right?

I have this friend who is very cocky, he just bought a second hand comp for 300 bucks (which i think is a pretty good deal), but he says it is equal to or better than mine and my brothers computers. I told him that when it comes to CPU's, numbers aren't everything, but still the Saga continues. So i ask from many other computer enthusiasts, am i right, or am i wrong?

My system specs:

ASUS P5QL Pro Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo 3.00Ghz
4 Gb RAM
ATI HD4870 2Gb V-RAM
XP SP3

My Brothers specs:

ASUS P5QL/EPU Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.40Ghz
4 Gb RAM
BFG Nvidia GeForce 9800GTX+ OC 512Mb V-RAM
XP SP3

My friends specs:

Intel Motherboard(unsure of model #)
Intel Celeron 3.0Ghz
3 Gb RAM
Nvidia Quadro FX 1700 512Mb V-RAM
XP SP3

Your friend knows nothing about computers. You're right numbers don't mean anything. Even though your CPU and his is the same clock speeds yours is still 10 times better. Even your bros PC is 10 times better. Comparing your computer to his is like comparing a Nintendo 64(not game play just technology) to a Xbox 360 or PS3.

Thx man, he under minds me, yet the funny thing is, i used to know very little about Hardware, and he knew more about computers than me, but i have gained more knowledge because i like to stay up to date with the latest stuff, lol, like he just bought this comp 2 days ago. the computer he has been using for the last 5 years was a 939 socket AMD athlon, with AGP. I kept upgrading to the latest stuff each year, and now i'm currently waiting for acceptance into a PC Repair and Maintenance Tech training institute.

I think you need to send this post link to your friend to prove he is wrong,His system wont touch yours :)

your comuputer is mos definatly better and so is your brothers for you have dual core and more ram, plus the fact the the Nvidia Quadro really isnt geared towards gaming and is mainly cad.

i also agree that $300.00 is prob to much for that laptop and im sure with a quick look around you could get a much better deal especially second hand.

you should give him the link to this thread

just get a copy of, say, call of duty mw2 and put the comps side by and see which on wins

just a quick look on ebay under buy it now shows you can get barebone core 2 quads builds starting at $189.99 which i believe are also new, shows that that is to much for a celeron based desktop (unless the other componants installed are actually amazing)
means you could get a way better system for around 300, i didnt check core 2s barebones but i imagine you could build a pretty good one for that price
obviously even better if you went second hand and got into a bidding war

Processor is junk, but the GFX is worth a pretty penny. What he bought wasn't a gamer computer I'll give it that... something more into CAD and such.

Celeron's are trash - it'll fry soon and then u can laugh at him. Actually he got ripped off, you can get way better than that from dell, brand new, for like $360

Tell him to read this thread, hell cry... Lmao at some of the other posts

His old socket 939 athlon is a better architecture than the celeron. Guaranteed he could have bought a athlon x2 soc 939 to upgrade w/e he had and been way better off than this new pos

probably mostly true, but i would imagine that this celeron set up is on socket 775 and prob with pci express, so he still got ripped off but maybe at least it has better upgradabilty, something you can consol your friend with when he understands what hes done

Well that really depends on what sort of Celeron it is. If it's a P4 series Celeron, then definitely, but if it's a Celeron based on a Core 2 Duo then not so much.

Your friend would be much better off selling that graphics card and getting something geared more towards gaming (even a budget card), and then upgrading the processor.

lol, yeah, my bro's comp has no problems running MW2 on high settings, the only game that struggles a bit is TR Underworld, my bro is like 12 and he whoops my ass in so many games, he'll be glad to see this thread, kinda pissed him off that my friend was trash-talking his comp.
