32 and 64 bit on one hard drive

I have windows 7 32 bit and 64 bit CDs and I want to install both on one hard drive. What is the reason? Some programs I use only work with 32 bit and some programs I use only work with 64 bit. So, if I want to use a 32 bit program I can just boot with windows 7 32-bit. If I want to use a 64-bit program I can just boot with windows 7 64-bit.

Is this possible?

Thanks.

Yea it's called a dual boot setup. I do the same with XP Pro and W7 64 U on separate drives. Are you sure the 32 bit applications you want to use won't work under W7 64? Because all my 32 bit app's work fine under a 64 bit OS.

If your not sure then install W7 64 then install your 64 bit app's. Then install a few of the 32 bit app's and give them a go under W7 64.

You might not need to dual boot at all.

Okay well I will try out the 64 bit world for a while and see how it goes. If I ever need 32 bit will i be able to run the duel boot without deleting all my 64 bit programs on my 64 os?

Yea but you will need to leave a separate partition on the drive for the 32 bit install, should you need it, or use a separate hard drive.

x64 should work fine for all your apps.
Yes, you do leave a partition, boot from the DVD and click Custom, then I think you choose Advanced when you reach the HD screen, select the HD you're installing to, then click Partition and make a partition that covers half your HD. Later, if you decide to ditch the x86 version, you can extend the partition you installed to to cover the rest of the HD using Disk Utility.
