SSD for Gaming!!11

Hey, just wondering if anyone could answer a couple questions for be regarding SSD's for gaming and/or HD video rendering.

1) Is it going to benefit me at all to get an SSD for Gaming (I'd assume the obvious answer for HD video rendering would be, yes)?

2) Lets say I want maximum of 256 gb capacity SSD (with a larger slave secondary drive of course), would it be better/faster to get one 256gb SSD or two 128gb w/ raid 0 configuration? (Again, any added benefit for raid 0 when gaming?)

i think faster hard drives are just going to help with load times.

But which is faster/better deal?

A single 256gb SSD forexample is cheaper than two 128gb in raid 0 configuration. If its going to be faster though (which is the whole point of getting SSD) then I don't mind paying the extra $$

It would be faster to RAID0 them, but if you have used a single SSD, you will know how damn fast they are anyway. For gaming, it isn't much use because load times will decrease, but you won't see improved fps or anything like that.

A single 256 would be fine and very fast, and in future, after a bit more saving, you could get another to have 512GB in RAID0
 
Load times is all for gaming side for most games which most benchmarks I have seen shaved 1/3 of the load time off most games (some half). A few games might see a boost such as Gothic 3 which is constantly accessing the HDD which causes load stutters that drive everyone mad. People have reported less stuttering on faster/raptor drives so SSD might boost performance there.

The only problem with SSD is once you get use to the speed everyone elses systems will be dreadful and horrible to use.
 
Can you folks kindly explain to me the term "RAID 0"? I've no clue what so ever. I'll Google it at the same time as posting this >.>

If you're thinking about getting SSD then you should just get a small one for your OS and then get another HDD for everything else. If you're doing something visually intense like gaming/rendering you should invest more money into a video card.

RAID0 basically uses 2 drives as one so you get higher over-all speeds. Now you can't just double everything and call it a day but you will be faster then a single SSD. You also get double capacity (aka 2 60GB ssd = 120GB) but you lose TRIM support on RAID and there is always a chance your RAID array can corrupt and you lose all your data (RAID0 = make backups weekly or immediately on data you can't lose)

Most people are buying 1 really fast SSD like the Intel x25-m and then RAID them in a year or so when prices drop and you can use TRIM.
