What does changing your IP address doi?

Hi sry for noob question

I haf heard of people talking about changing Ip address but what does it mean and do? Does it prevent my parents from tracing my internet activity?

Your IP address can kind of be thought of as your home mailing address. When you visit other Websites, others might inspect your IP address just like they might see your return address on an envelope they received from you. If you set things up so that you appear to be coming from a different IP address, you may fool others when they inspect your return address--and this can present some anonymity for you.

But it doesn't present any anonymity on your end of the message. Your parents can still know about those questionable Websites you're thinking of visiting if you try to change your IP address!
 
your parents have a right to know what you're doing online it's their internet and probably their computer (even if it was a present)
 
You should probably just delete your browsing history, that usually gets it done. Assuming your parents dont know anything about computers.
