Hey guys,

Going to build a pc.. I have purchased :

GIGABYTE GA-MA785GM-US2H AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 785G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition Deneb 3.0GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ940XCJ4DGI - OEM

My question is can i use ddr3 ram or do i have to use ddr2 ? Also, if anyone could suggest a good graphics card to install on this motherboard for gaming. Thanks

I see where joh's coming from. You'll need at least 550W for your system, what brand is it? SeaSonic, Corsair, Antec, Enermax, Be quiet!, OCZ (if on budget) Pc power and cooling, are the ones you'll want. The last two I mentioned would be second to the others listed.
 
That's a bit difficult to predict since technology moves so fast, and things get phased out quickly

Obviously, you'd want a high end board, that supports 24 GB of RAM, and the upcoming USB 3.0

I'd suggest a Core i7 1366 socket board since it supports the most powerful processors available now, and it will also support the Core i9s coming out this year sometime, unlike the 1156 socket Core i7s.

There won't be core i9s. Please provide a link that suggests/confirms there will be. the i7 Extreme Editions (EE hereafter for brevity) were the "i9s." At the end of this year Intel will unveil it's "Sandy bridge" architecture, sockets LGA 1155/LGA2011. What's a bit difficult to predict? New types of RAM will undoubtedly be out before he needs to fill up his Mobo with 24GB of the stuff. even DDR2 has now been superseded by DDR3. He's fine as it is for a couple of years, of course he can upgrade on the way. (You can change Motherboard, you know)
