4 Gigabytes of Ram (2 Usuable)

okay I'll try each stick at a time, if its dual channel will it boot even if one stick is good?

Cheers ,

Matt

PS. Thanks for all the feedback

Probably not. Occasionally bad RAM will look like it's working but you'll get random blue screens from time to time or it may fail to boot. I have a Dell laptop that shipped with bad RAM, if I left if off for any amount of time it didn't like to boot up but once it finally did start up the first time it was good.

Just out of curiosity, did you set the ram's voltage correctly? It should be set to 1.65v, default for DDR3 is 1.5v so it may be your issue. Just checking.

hey man, Ive never touched any of the voltages before and they worked, You can see the screen shot on the first page... Ill try to change them to 1.65 , id be suprised if that works.... maybe ill try the cmos battery when I get home , Im going to the Union game tonight so I doubt I will have time

I don't know what you've tried.

Above you said you'll try running each stick individually, what was the result? Have you tried moving the RAM to different slots and again, what was the result? Without knowing what you have and haven't done, what worked and what didn't it's hard to suggest anything else of value.

A generic first guess would be to grab some new RAM and see if it works or if possible, try the RAM in a different motherboard. If it works (or the new RAM doesn't work in your board) then you may need to replace your motherboard. And keep going from there. Eventually you'll either figure out the problem or have replaced all your hardware :P

I also notice that windows does not tell truth about the size of Ram. In mine, it tell smaller than real.

Windows tells you how much RAM it sees. If things like onboard video or physical address limits prevent some from being seen then Windows will report less.

Also, having the maxmem option checked in msconfig causes the 4gb (2gb available) issue. most people coming across the x amount usable issue hax maxmem checked... even me, i used to use it in windows xp, but it's pretty useless in vista or 7.

I changed that too... its my mobo pins, they are screwed up... I'm sending my motherboard back and Ill let you know what happenes
