Hey guys!

I'm building a new computer as some of you probably already know haha but I do have a hard drive from a computer i built awhile ago and was wondering if it is any good.
the build im doing is basically:
i7 930 (think i might just wait to get the 950 when the price drops?)
Gtx 460
6gb ddr3 mem

the hard drive I have is this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...166&cm_re=maxtor_300gb-_-22-140-166-_-Product

it's plenty of space for what I need (i also have a WD passport 250gb hd) plus I was planning on buying an SSD as well.
Is this hard drive any good? How fast is it comparable to something like the samsung spinpoint f3?
If it will work is there a way to erase everything on it?

thanks guys!

What you have is an IDE hard drive and unless the motherboard supports IDE, you won't able to use it. Hard drives are cheap and I would highly recommend getting a SATA hard drive instead as it would be faster then the IDE anyway.

this is probably the motherboard I am going to get..

it says it supports PATA 1 x ATA133 2 Dev. Max which when i look on my hard drive it says thats what it is. Am I wrong?
How much faster would the sata be?

But the thing is, is your cd/dvd rom drives IDE or SATA. IF they are IDE then I would definately get the SATA hard drive. But I would still upgrade and get the SATA drive as you will be getting a very good motherboard. Why would you want to slow it down by using an IDE hard drive? You have to think about it that way too... If i'm spending 200 bucks on a motherboard i would definately upgrade to the SATA drive.

Well I just don't know how much I would be slowing it down haha. I was gonna buy an SSD so was thinking that would be fine if i just had music and movies etc on the hard drive I already have. But if it really is that much of a difference then I will just buy a sata drive. And I don't have a cd/dvd rom drive yet so I guess I'll be buying a sata one.

edit: If I did buy a new SATA drive can I run it in raid 0 with the drive I already have or are they not compatable? Also I guess I could just use the one I have as a backup drive?
