Upgrading ram on old dell b110

i want to upgrade the ram on my girlfriends old dell b110 to the max of 2gb it will take 1gb in each slot

this is what it says under specs on dells site for her pc

333- and 400-MHz DDR SDRAM

NOTE: DDR333 and DDR400 memory runs at 266MHz when configured with Celeron 400MHz FSB processors

NOTE: DDR333 memory runs at 320MHz when configured with Pentium 4 800MHz FSB processors

now since it is an old pc i dont want to really spend 80 dollars on set of memory ideally i would like to spent no more then 60 including shipping and what not

can someone help me find a kit that meets the specs and in that price range and is reliable

thanks alot

How much memory is in it now, 512mb 1stick?

Because your gonna be spending about 80 bucks for 2 1gb sticks of ddr400 memory unless you get it on ebay or something.

I was hoping it had 1gb. However, You might be better off just getting another stick of 512 to make it 1gb total as XP will run much better with 1gb.

Doing that Paul, probably means it wont run in dual channel. Better to match them.

Yes, if can get matched memory sticks would be nice, but in real life when we wanted to save a few bucks it is difficult sometime. even if can't run dual channel it would still better than a single stick memory with 512mb, it can't do dual channel with on stick of memory anyway, don't it? or it can?
well when I have 512mb memory in my Gateway laptop, it lagged very much, when the program look for ram it run out, it has to go page file to get the information. you the hard drive is very slow compare to ram. When I put the 1gb memory in it,make it 1.5gb, it does wonders.
Best wishes.
Paul

You're absolutely right.

Also, in most cases capacity > speed so even if this hypothetical "single stick dual channel" was actually possible, he'd benefit more by sacrificing bandwidth for the extra capacity anyway.

I know all that, but when DD400 is less than $50 on ebay, new for 2 x 1gb, you're much better getting a matched pair.

To the OP, please download PC Wizard from my sig, install it and go to FILE, SAVE AS and click Ok. COpy the contents out of that text file into this thread. Please also state what country you are in and your budget.
