the heatsink i use on my CPU is a old one off of an p4 it barley keeps it cool enough and my new computer case has a air duct that stretches all the way down to the CPU so i decided i want a new Heatsink that would better utilize the air duct does any one have any idea my chip size is lga775:D

In order to use the airduct you have to get a traditional heatsink, as opposed to tower heatsinks. You can try taking a look at Coolermaster Gemin II, Zalman 8700, Thermaltake BlueOrb.

To say the truth it's probably not worth trying to use the duct. Tower heatsinks are more efficient in removing hot air from the case as it blows the air directly out the back of the case. Top down heatsinks greatly disturbs the front to back airflow of cases as it spews hot air everywhere.

I agree^

I would say just buy an aftermarket tower cooler and a decent rear exhaust fan. You will get much better temperatures overall in your case.
