XFXs graphics card support

Hey guys,

The fan on my 4890 has been making wierd buzzing noises on/off for some time now,at least 4 months,It seems to only do it though when the fans rps slows down and the fans spinning around 50% speed,If i raise the speed of the fan the noise goes but im thinking that the fan will eventually fail?

i have contacted XFX about it and im awaiting a technicians reply .... But do XFX still make the 4890 series? for replacement? or would they just replace the fan?

Also what im concerned about is....like i said it does not do it all the time,it just randomly starts buzzing out of the blue and what im worried about is that when it arrives at XFX and they test it,If it does not make a noise them they might just send it back to me and say there's nothing wrong with it!

What you guys think?

It plays games fine no problems there,Its currently running 60c idle at 50% fan speed.

It looks like they still make it, since it has an estimated shipment arrival on newegg. It isn't the XXX edition, though. Either way, I hear their support is nice. Not quick, (RMA center is in Hong Kong) but nice. :)

RMA location for the US is in California, but their support is terrible IMO, slow to respond, find any reason they can to void the warranty.

If the card in question is no longer made, it will be replaced with a card "of equal performance".

Yeah, I remember hearing from someone about a bad experience with with the equal performance thing, but I've never heard about them voiding the warranty. You've probably had personal experience with their RMAs, though, so that's definitely something to take in mind.

Hmm, well to Nevakonaza: you could maybe try replacing the the heatsink? I hear the Arcitc Cooling Accelero S1 is nice.

The problem ive heard with using aftermarket coolers the HD4890s is that they dont cool the VRMs enough and the cards fry

About the void warrenty thing,Think they would void it because i changed the thermal paste to TX-2? :D

Technically, thats covered under their warranty. However, i've seen them void warranties for pretty stupid reasons, such as "oxidation".

Ive told XFX to forget the RMA...takes them too long to reply back to you,Its been a whole week now and nothing!

Looks like il just get me an aftermarket Heatsink,But first i need to find out about cooling the VRMs properly.

Ah thanks for that,So heres a VRM cooler for £9
http://www.amazon.co.uk/ZALMAN-ZM-RHS90-Video-card-heatsink/dp/B002H0W8A6

But im now wondering what cooler i can shove on and it wont interfere with the VMR cooler?

see i read somewhere that alot of people have replaced the coolers on their 4890 only for it to fail because the new aftermarket heatsinks they put on did not cool the VRM efficiently and it fried.

Guess it would depend how high that cooler sits off the ground. Will call my buddy later tonight and see if he can't give me a measurement. Worst case you could always go across it with a hack saw to slim it down if its a solid piece of aluminum :P

The S1 rests a bit off the heatsink, so it might not interfere. I hear people have used it with the 4890 and have had good results, and the price is right IMO.

Ive been on 5 diffrent forums asking if the Artic Cooling Accelero TWIN TURBO PRO will fit my card and no one seems to know! :(

Ive found out what was causing the "Buzzing" noise,Theres a XFX sticker on the front of the fan,It was coming away and raised slightly and the air was catching on to it causing a slight buzzing sound :D

One of the screws holding the fan to the plastic cover was also a bit loose,All is good now and i dont need a new cooler,Ive just purchased some MX-3 thermal paste and some new Thermal pads for the memory :)
