Can't download Java

I have a problem I can't find a solution to. I went to the Java website but they want $50 to solve the problem.

Here's the problem. I got a bug, in spite of two security programs and had to recover my computer with the recovery disc. Then Java wouldn't work. I deleted it from the Add/Delete. I can find no Java files on my computer using Search. It is not listed in Add/Delete. Windows Installer Cleanup utiltiy doesn't reconize any files.

Yet when I try to download Java from Java's site I received the following messages: First, after the download completed I received this message, "Java Setup: This software has already been installed on your computer. Would you like to reinstall it". I clicked "yes". Then I received this message, "Windows Installer: This action is valid only for products that are currently installed". I clicked "Ok". Then the first message appeared and when I clicked "yes" the second message appeared again. When I clicked "Ok" the messages disappeared but nothing has been installed. I am truely confused now. And help. Thanks.
 
If that works, then disregard this. But you did a complete restore? Did you back up your files while your computer was infected where it could be reinfected? Because I would think that with a complete restore this wouldn't be a problem.

Voyager, didn't work. I ran cccleaner and it found 41 files that it cleaned. Then I tried to download Java and had the same problem. I used search and found six Java files which cccleaner now doesn't recognize.

Any more suggestions. Thanks.

bdribbs, no I didn't. I purposely didn't backup anything for that very reason. I simply did a complete restore and then I have reinstalled what I needed to. Thanks.
 
Try CCleaner, but keep running it until it is done. Set it to scan your registry as well, if you don't have it set that way.
 
Please download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder
  • Run JavaRa.exe, pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
  • Accept any prompts.
  • Open JavaRa.exe again and select Search For Updates.
  • Select Update Using Sun Java's Website then click Search and click on the Open Webpage button. Download and install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version for your computer.

If that don't work...

You might want to try downloading and installing the offline version.

However, I've seen plenty of issues after using the recovery cd's from the manufacturer. They usually don't actually format the drive. A fresh install actually requires deleting the existing partitions, repartition and then format and install.

Sorry, no go. I tried the first part three times and at the end got the same two messages twice. Then tried the offline version and got the same two messages twice. I just don't know what to do, but if I have to pay someone to fix this it won't be Java, I will call a local computer repairman and pay him.

I anyone has any other suggestions I would appreciate it. Thanks.
 
I would say redo the system recovery as something didn't get done right. See if there is a way to do a destructive restore in the options.
