I have here, a 2.5inch laptop hdd, IDE, 80GB. However, when i had the laptop, i put a password on the HDD because of having my house burgled twice in the past year. But now, i dont have the laptop because the motherboard died, so i kept spares like the HDD, RAM and other bits and pieces. I've now got the HDD in my desktop computer, via 2.5 to 3.5 converters etc, but because the HDD has a password on it, i can't install windows to it, and the BIOS on my computer wont let me change/remove the password, there just isnt an option to. Help please? Really need this sorting, fast!

Have you tried booting with it? It shouldn't work, but who knows. And have you tried formatting it with a Linux Live CD? I would recommend GParted if you haven't.

Use atapwd. Also, for anyone looking at this getting ready to freak out, this isn't a password cracking program. This program only works if you know the password on the hard drive.
