Hi everybody!
I want to upgrade my rig to a better one and i've been searching and searching and looking at vids on youtube but I can't get a resonable answer of what Graphics card i should get

Right now i've got:
AMD Athlon II X2 240. Dual Core, 2.8Ghz
Nvidia Geforce GT220 (which sucks b*lls)
8 GB DDR2 RAM
Fan cooling system
w/m

I want either the ATI Radeon HD 5770 1 GB or the Geforce GTS 250, but i'm not sure about what my specs can handle without bottlenecking...

Can my spec handle those cards?
Thanks in advance :D

a gts250 and 5770 aren't really comparable. The 5770 wipes the floor with the 250. Your system probably wouldn't be causing a bottleneck, however remember that a 5770 or gts250 draw a heck of a lot more power than the gt220 does, so make sure your power supply is up to the job. What PSU are you running?

I have no idea. I'm kinda new to the computer hardware field..
The only thing I know is that I got one lol, and the computer im using is an acer.

How do I check the PSU name?

Since it's a computer from a manufacturer (Acer, HP, etc.), I can't imagine the PSU being more than 400w, especially based on those specs. But yeah, open up the case and look on the labels of the PSU and see what the maximum output wattage is.

How much watt do you think I need??

Is it a prebuilt computer, by which I mean one from a manufacturer, Dell, HP, Acer etc? If so, what specific manufacturer/model is it?

I ask because although you will only need a ~450+W PSU from a good manufacturer , the size of the case may cause problems, as may the motherboard model, as some from big manufacturers have different size/shape power adapters on the motherboard

It's an Acer prebuilt. I'll check the PSU capacity tomorrow when I have time for it.

About the sizes, do you mean that the video card won't fit or something?

What Acer model is it? We can find out exactly what power supply it has from that information.

With the size, I mean that either the power supply will be the wrong size for the case, or the connectors to the motherboard may be different. So long as your motherboard has a PCIe slot, which is does do because you have a gt220 in there now, the graphics card will work

7300

The model is Acer aspire M3203

There aren't any decent cards that will run on a generic 300w power supply. you will need a better one for the GTS 250 or 5770 or whatever you wish to upgrade to.

Yep. ^

The Corsair CX400W can do a 5770 fine. Plus it's cheap, and reliable. It won't give much room for future upgrades, and it's not modular, so you'll have to hide all the cables, but a modular one would cost a fair bit more.

Budget?

Alright.. I've found a 550 watt for a decent prize. it's the Chieftec Smart Series 550W PSU. What about that one?
And btw if I would get the hd 5770 and the 550W PSU, my dual core 2.8ghz can handle it right?
And I need PCI express also?

BTW guys, what do you all think about the HD 5670?

If you intend to game, I wouldn't. Stick to at least a 5750

Chieftecs = crappy. rated for peak wattage and still overrated. The 5670 comapres to a 9600gt.

Here's a decent unit that's decently priced:

+1, with the rebates and discount at the moment on the Corsair units at the egg, they are just about unbeatable. Shame the XFX deals aren't still on
