Good day all,
My wife's computer hard drive crashed this weekend (thank goodness for Carbonite) and I've been reinstalling all her programs and restoring her data files. I ran across one problem that I haven't been able to solve and yes, I've spent time searching here and with Google.
Before you chastise me about using such an old version of Office; her Master's program at the university uses Office 2000. Her 150 page thesis was/is written using Office 2000 and updating to a newer version is not a threshhold she, I or her professors are able to cross. Her thesis was in the pre-publishing stage and just a few days away from being approved. After she has completed her thesis she and I will upgrade her computer to Office 2007 or Office 2010. It also concerns me that support and automatic updates are not available as my business computers all use MS Office 2000.
It seems that MS disabled the automatic updates for MS Office 2000 Professional in July, 2009. I can find the individual update files but I keep receiving a message that says "MS Office 2000 SR-1 Update did not complete successfully. For assistance, contact Microsoft Technical Support." This is using the Office 2000 Service Release 1a (SR-1a); the first service pack/release listed on the MS Office download page. Any other files/updates I attempt to install yield the following message: "Microsoft Office 2000 Professional is not at the SR-1 level. This update can only be applied to MS Office 2000 SR-1 products. Please update all of your Office 2000 products to the SR-1 level and then reapply this update." The first Service Release I can find to download is SR-1a; I'm unable to locate SR-1.
Thanks in advance!
Kevin
