Help. RPM Vs Cache

Hello.

I just got a new system and these people installed Western Digital cavier green 5400 rpm, 64 cache harddrive

But what i initially wanted was Samsung Spinpoint F3 which is 7200 rpm 32 cache.

Which is more important ? RPM or Cache?

I thought Higher the RPM, better it is. However, it seems like its not.

I want to hear from you guys.

Thanks,

Strange... I wonder why they'd make a board with such low RPM and such high cache. 7200 RPM is the midpoint for RPM, 5400 being low, and 10000 and above being considered high. 32MB of cache has the same property, 16MB being low and 64MB being high.

Higher RPM will have lower seek times. The green line of drives is an efficiency based product, mean't for lowest heat output and power consumption. The spinpoint F3 is more of an enthusiast based drive that has lower seek times and higher read/write speeds.

because it is an 800GB-2TB drive, so very large, so a large cache helps alot with performance.

They are low RPM because it is a Caviar Green, which is designed primarily for storage, as it uses less power and the slower spin speed means, the mechanical parts aren't worked as hard so, generally, they will last longer loo

Thank you.

Samsung F3 is the better drive. And the Seagate 7200.12 and Western Digital Black.

Thanks. I had to order and wait for the Samsung F3 so i just decided to change to Seagate 7200 12.

Heard Seagate had some problems with Harddrive but i guess it was the version 11.
