Hard drive not recognized

I just bought a hitachi HDD off of new egg and installed it with a new motherboard. The driver was installed automatically on startup but the HDD is being recognized as an optical drive and not a hard drive. I tried formatting it with a low level formatter I downloaded but still no luck. Any help?

Never saw one showing up as a CD drive? But a new drive needs to be Partitioned and formated before it will show up.

Are you sure its being recognized as a cdrom drive? Is this a sata hard drive? Usually a hard drive won't become visible in "my computer" without being partitioned and formatted. Check disk management to see is a drive without a drive letter.

Yea it's SATA and I tried plugging it into different ports (thout it might work). It's showing up in my computer as a BD Rom.

No just a normal optical cd drive. And I'm running win 7 ultimate

Dont really know what else to tell you till you check out Disk Management and see what it shows.

I went into disk management and partitioned it....solved the issue. Thanks everyone for your help!
