Graphic card failure?

Ok, so uhm i'm having this problem.. When i'm playing games, like high-spec games like metro 2033 and mw2 and many more, the screen starts freezing and the audio stops too, so i know it's nothing like dead pixels or anything like that, i think it might be a software failure, because i've had this issue before, but i managed to fix it every time, in some way i dont really remember, since its a long time since it happened the last time..

Ok so heres the specs:

OS: Windows 7 64x
Motherboard: XFX nForce 780i 3-Way SLI
Bios(just in case, lol): Pheonix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
Cpu: Intel Core 2 DUO
(E8500 @ 3.16GHz (2 cpu's), ~3.2GHz)
Ram: 4096 mb
Graphic card: Geforce 9600 gt

Hmm, and i run 1920 x 1080

Ok, so when i play the games, it like pop up like alotta coloured dots and lines and black boxes.. But what is REALLY weird, is that when i play metro 2033 i get farther and farther into the game before it freeze, so there must be something seriousely wrong.. And the computer aren't that old.. buildt it in 2009, but i cant use the one "wall"(idk what to call it) Of the case/tower because the graphic card overheat or something weird, so its just really screwed up, tho i lack 2 fans, not like i REALLY need 'em..

So, help would be appreciated xD

Try playing at lower/lowest settings would be the first thing comes to my mind.

Metro2033 is pretty demanding; it wouldnt suprise me at all if your problem was the 9600gt - particularly running games at full HD! The bottleneck in your system is certainly the GPU.

I already tried playing most of my games in lowspec but it didnt seem to work. I also tried playing some lowspec games like crossfire just for testing, and it never happened while playing it.. Pretty weird stuff :/

When you say it didnt seem to work - you mean, the problem still occurs playing at the lowest settings? Have you tried dropping the resolution aswell?

Checked up on your heat aswell?

It could be overheating...

Download, and install SpeedFan: http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php
Post your computer temperatures:

Post two sets of numbers, while computer idle and while playing some game.

The due to the failure is mostly the GPU, it's too old. It could be that the video memory is too small. Metro 2033 requiers a pretty advanced spec. I suggest you get a new video card. I recommend the HD57** series. They are cheap and good.

If you're thinking about getting a new GPU then consider maybe getting a new quad CPU aswell, it's not a must but it will boost up the performance A LOT since most games today that support raw graphics are coded for quad.

Edit- These are just suggestions and my view of your problem.

Yeah the same problem still occur, And i never really checked the heat with any program, but when i play the game, the graphic card seem to be very overheated when i touch it with my hand..

Srry for the double post, but anyways, i just reinstalled, coz my computer was messed up anyways, so imma check now if its MAYBE a software failure, coz i tried reinstalling before, and the problem just vanished.. I've had these problems since like after a year i buildt the computer..

Eh, well.. I kinda run Crysis perfecly..

And I've been thinking about getting some new components for the computer a long time now, so ill check the HD57 :P

You run Crysis perfectly because it is coded for dual core, not for quad.
Games like for example GTA IV are coded for quad core which creates poor performance with dual. With time more and more games that are based on raw graphics "upgrade" to quad.

EDIT- Getting a new and good GPU with a good amount of video memory will get you through Metro 2033 with no problems whatsoever, whether it's dual or quad doesn't matter

Haha! I was looking for that program, but i forgot the name, Thx! xD

Oh and btw folks, it works again after i reinstalled, so im pretty sure its just software fail, lol.. OR maybe it can be a virus.. Tho i scanned 5 times lol..

EDIT: Nah, now it kept happening again..

Get a new GPU man

Edit- There are cheap ones that can supply a good amount of graphics, memory and so on..

It looks like there are many other people having just the same problem as me, n' their problem is the driver.. Ill try fixing instead of buying first..

i had the same problem with Metro 2033 i had a 9800GT. when i build my new rig i got a 4850 from a friend for $50 he had it for a month. and now Metro 2033 run well on very high. only time it lags is when theres a lot of explosions.

upgrade your GPU.
