Computer Problems (NEED HELP)

I own a Dell Inspiron 530. Lately the fan has been running very loud. Yesterday when I tried to turn on the computer, the fan began to run very loud while make a beeping noise every 3-4 seconds. The computer never actually setup (it was getting power, but nothing appeared on the screen). It has been doing this for a full day now, and I don't know what to do. Anybody know of a solution???

The fan may have been running in overdrive mode bc the processor was overheating. You should open the case, remove the heatsink and clean all of the dust out of it (i use the hose extension on my vacuum cleaner), as well as all of the dust inside the case, around the fans etc.

Then, before re-seating the heatsink, you should clean the old thermal paste off with a lint free cloth and rubbing alcohol - clean it off the top of the processor and the bottom of the heatsink. Then reapply some thermal paste (just a dab will do) - I recommend Arctic Silver - you can get some at your local computer store or possibly Best Buy, etc.

Do that, and then post back with your results. ;)

what kind of beeps? Long-short-short? they usually mean something. tell us what sequence they come in

First problem I see is you have a Dell. (hahah sorry, j/k.... kinda)

CPU is overheating, replace heatsync, thermal paste and get something with a half decent fan (spend over $10)

Blow out (with compressed air, not your breath) the dust from the case or VERY CAREFULLY Vacuum it out, and you should be good to go.

To confirm this, go to your bios when starting the computer, go to hardware monitor, and check the processor temp. If it's like 50+ while pretty idle then you know for sure it's overheating processor on load of starting OS.

Those beeps means something has failed, or is loose, not overheating. If it was overheating, the system would boot, the fan would get louder and eventually the system would just shut off.

I spent a week at work experience vacuuming computers, among other things, it's a non-issue. the whole static electricity thing is blown way out of proportion.

Technically yeah, but in a working environment its best not to recommend it - even with the tiny risk, people are quick to blame if something goes wrong.

(bad habits from work though, i personally vacuum out my stuff all the time, hah)

Yeah - true that... look for swollen or popped capacitors on the mobo - likely near the CPU. Also, could be that the CPU is fried already - or that the heatsink has come loose - any number of things, really - like linkin said, it would help if you could tell us the sequence of the beeps
