Processor: Outdated or good for a budget?

it just hit the market no? how can it be outdated? o__O

but anyways, if it fits right into the budget, it's still good to go.

i believe that line of cpu's have no l3 cache which will affect gaming and such you may want to try the phenom II triple.

hmm L3 cache isn't all that much needed in gaming... it's useful for when multitasking though.

I edited my first post...I found a quad for $95.

It should work in your motherboard...what board do you have?

These are great processors - however if you've got a few bucks more to spend i'd recommend the athlon ii x4 620-640 propus, or the phenom ii x3-x6 (l3 cache)

You might want to look at Phenom II series...here is a Black Edition quad core for about the same price. For $95 it is a great price for a good CPU that will do everything you need it to.

I wouldn't buy that processor. You can find better processors at similar prices as others have suggested. if you must have a am3, why not try Athlon II X4 620 Propus

just overclock that puppy to 3.2ghz and you just get more bang for your buck.

both of those are OEM, meaning much shorter warranty, and no heatsink, so you would have to add extra costs for getting an after market heatsink.

The athlon II x3 is a great budget chip for everyday use or gaming, they are all the same except for L2 cache on older models and clock speed. You also have the chance to unlock the 4th core and have a quad core at no extra cost. But personally, the price difference to ensure that you have a quad core isn't enough to justify risking it with a tri-core, you would be better spending a little extra on the CPU to get the quad if you (or your bro) is going to be multitasking or playing future games
