eMachine T5224 - Video/Keyboard Not Coming Up

I'm working on a eMachines T5224 that has:
-250GB HDD
-1 GB DDR RAM
-Windows Vista (not sure if it's x32 or x64

Here's the deal:
The computer was running stupid slow when it booted up at first...defraged...ran a disk cleanup...still running slow

NOW

When I boot it up, most of the times, neither the video not keyboard will come up...

This is AFTER the Vista status bar screen comes up, and starts to go into the next screen (which I believe is the user accounts screen)

UNLESS I start the machine in SAFE MODE first...then it seems like everything wants to work

ALSO

Video and Keyboard work FINE in Safe Mode...it just flakes out in normal operations...

Suggestions???

I say reseat your video card and go into device manager and uninstall all usb entries and reboot and let windows reinstall the drivers.
