Each key on the keyboard types random characters

I'm a student admin this year at my college's computer science labs. One of my tasks is to figure out why one of the computers is unusable.

I discovered that the keyboard would randomly type keys no matter which key you pressed. Example, if I try to type "Computer" I get results like: "a 33hPe*". When I did it again it one key put the desktop to sleep.

I've tried different keyboards and they all result the same, so I know there is something wrong with the software of the computer. (I'm guessing some hooligan logged on and messed with the machine).

Any help to fix this?

Is it brand new? Try plugging in a different keyboard... if the same thing happens, someone's been messing with your lab's computers, changing the key-to-letter configuration. It's a pretty original prank.

EDIT: Are you logged in? If you can't I don't know how to help you. But if it's logged in, then control panel should be able to help.
