Just wondered if anyone can help me diagnose a problem.
I have an old-ish computer that is no longer booting up. When I switch it on I don't get the customary beep before it goes through the post screens etc.
The power supply seems to be fine.
The motherboard also seems to be working with the exception of the Northbridge fan which has been intermitten for years but this has never been a problem as it doesn't run hot and has a heat sink anyway besides being in a coolish location.
I have done a cmos reset which hasn't solved the problem.
All hard drives still seem to be functioning as well as CD drives and drive A as far as I can tell. They are all getting power and I haven't noticed any unusual sounds from them. They all seem to be spinning and working fine.
keyboard is wireless usb and that doesn't appear to be a problem either. Monitor works fine but obviously not getting a signal due to computer non-boot or even going to post screens etc after switching on.
Any ideas on what can be the issue?
Fried CPU?
Fried/Shortcircuited Mobo?
Power Supply?
I disconnected all wires and reconnected which hasn't solved the problem.
The only thing I've not done is a reseat of all the cards and DIMMs etc. I may try this next if you think it will help? I think this may be the most time consuming though and I'll be mad if its still not working after.
If you have any other ideas on this I'd appreciate any suggestions.
I'm thinking last resort is going to be a new mobo/cpu probably new system is what its going to come down to.
Thanks for any advice,
John
