USB 3.0: Wait for it or Jump In Now? (laptop)

My wife would like a laptop for work and I've been thinking about purchasing her one for Christmas. She is a teacher and is looking for a desktop replacement for use at home. The school she teaches at is very close so even a 17" would be fine for the occasional need to bring it to her classroom though 15.6" is probably the best screen size in this case.

There will be no gaming at all just Office/Word work, accessing the internet for research, emails, the school server, and occasional video streaming -- the standard stuff.

Already settled on 7 64, 4 gigs of RAM and the i3 cpu (maybe i5 if I get a deal).

*** The only thing holding me back is the fact that unless you are purchasing the high-end, most expensive models such as HP's Envy and Lenovo's W Series USB 3.0 is not offered; not even on Lenovo's flagship T Series. Motherboards for PC's are now coming standard with USB 3.0. but not with the vast majority of laptop offerings.

It seems to me - this is my opinion - that spending money on older technology is not a good expenditure of said money especially since 3.0 will most likely in the next year start becoming standard on mid-range and lower end models.

Thoughts? Your opinions?

USB 3 is a minor. if ya see the deal then get it. I would rather have windows 7 pro or ultimate. thats more important. Not the home edition. Also try to get one with a recovery console or recovery disc. thats a must. one price and the package.

Thanks for the response. I have not familirized myself with Windows 7 all that much so my next question is why, in your opinion, is 7's Pro or Ultimate the better option? I'm not questioning your stance jsut asking to gain knowledge.

Thanks!

The USB3.0 is really new and expensive. I bet you(or your wife) won't be using it for at least the next 2-3 years...
Like tremmor said; if you see a deal, close it!

Okay, guys, much appreciated. And now with Intel's insistance of their Lightpeak technology soon to be released while resisting USB 3.0 it even seems more moot at this point.

What the future holds concerning these two new technologies and who will dominate is anybody's guess but know the 6,000 lb. gorilla known as Intel it should be interesting.

Like everyone else has been saying USB 2.0 is fine for now USB 3.0 connections while they may be faster i believe there is no such need for it at this point in time.
