I brought this processor as it said it was a black edition but now read that it is not. Could you shead some light on this for me please?

As far as I know, there was two 9950. A 140 and a 125W. Both were BE models. Not for sure if they ever made a OEM that was locked. What is the model number on the box or processor?

i dont have box and am not taking off heat sink to find it out. is there anouther way to find this out i think it is the 140w one though. what is the benefit of the extra watts?

The 140W was the first one. The 125W was released later. The 125W was really better, more efficient, less heat.

Pretty sure its unlocked. Look in the bios, you should be able to change the multiplier. If so its a BE.

yeh i think it is the 140w one i ran cpu-z and nothing about modle or w came up. It dosnt matter now anyway, i am now pritty sure its the 140w BE.
Thanks.:)

If it doesn't say "Black Edition", I would assume that it is not...

If it was, CPU-Z would say so.

In regards to the multiplier it's only a BE if you can raise the multi higher than default. You can always choose a lower multiplier.
