good multimedia computer?

Im looking to buy a computer in the near future. I will not be using it for gaming. The only programs I will be using will be Photoshop, Fruity Loops, Auto Cad and many other similar graphics/processor intense programs. I have many people trying to sway me to either build a top of the line pc or by a Mac Pro. What would you guys suggest? The main purpose of this computer will be computer graphics editing at a professional level and music (beat) making i.e. Fruity Loops.. any input would be appreciated
 
Hmm, photoshop and Auto CAD do not require a fast PC, but what are you looking for a lappy or a desktop.
 
first off im located in NY, my budget is not an issue. and I would like it to be a desktop. I would like to not spend a whole lot if i can get a real good system on the cheap. but I would like to make around $2500 my limit for arguments sake.
I probably will not be making this purchase til spring, So I would like to do my homework first. I have used both windows and mac based systems, and found both to have their pro's and con's. so whichout enticing a fanboy flamewar over the two...

I am just wondering which platform is the best for graphics work? I was looking at the mac pro in the mall and i have to say i was impressed with the power it had. once again any input would be great
 
I think it'd be better to wait until spring o ask about this. AMD, Intel, Nvidia, and AMD Radeon (formerly ATI) are all releasing new generations of hardware before then, so what we tell you now will bear little resemblance to what we'd tell you in the spring.

when is sandy bridge going to be released?
 
Sandy Bridge comes out January 5th.

Llano, which is an evolution of the current AM3 processors, may be out by spring the time TS orders his rig. Delivery of them has already started, but batch production is not up and running yet. Bobcat will definitely be out by then, though it's not really a desktop-oriented platform. Bulldozer won't be out yet, I don't think, since it's set to come out after Llano.

Nvidia and AMD have already released part of the 5xx and HD6xxx (respectively) GPU lines, and the rest of those product lines should be out by spring, with the Radoen HD7xxx series out sometime in Q2. (march-june)

One reason why I hate technology, yet love it at the same time. You can't stay caught up with the latest and greatest stuff.

Spring? which month actually?
I'm also buying a laptop, so should I buy in spring?
