Another Computer Build

The mobo is a bit overkill, but otherwise it looks good if you're trying to keep the price down. Any particular reason for the H50?

edit: Missed the budget...get a better CPU. If you've got $1k to spend, at least get a Phenom II 955.

The reason I picked the athlon 640 is because I get it for $90 (i dont have 1k to spend, i am trying to avoid that price =] ). when the athlon ii x4 becomes outdated ill bump up to a x6. I like starting at whats necessary, not overkill. The phenoms are said to be not as good of a quad core as the athlon x4's because the phenoms are 2 dual cores packed in one. (ive had the 955 it was great). I want to experiment.

The h50 just seemed interesting, I like that its a AIO water cooler. I could go air for a lot cheaper, but =/ oh well. It's still go, no?

Edit: the mobo is awesome though =] i've always had crap ones.

Or, I can just say screw it and go get a q6600 on craigslist for $80 and get 2 more gigs of ddr2. They have a couple q6600 g0 stepping ones.

that will save me $200+

but I didnt want to put more money into something that is not future proof

Phenom II are pretty much the same as Athlon II's, but with an L3 cache...where did you get the thing about them being 2 dual cores? Athlon II's are only something like 15% slower on average, though, so no big loss there.

the H50 has about the same performance as a good air cooler, and more expensive. The only time where it's really useful, IMO, is in a case that won't fit a large cooler. They're supposedly pretty quiet, though.

^ He's getting it cheaper from Microcenter. Doesn't make sense to me though...seems like it'd be MORE expensive after tax, rather than $10 cheaper.

Doesn't make much sense to me.

Your going to run your 8600GT, cant SLI with a 890.

I would get a good quality 870 chipset board for around 100 bucks. With the 120 bucks saved over that Crosshair board you could get the Phenom II X6 1090T at Mwave for 209 bucks now, and be done with it.

I'm not using the 8600gts, I have a 5770 sitting over here.

My buddy works in an IT research place in Arizona, that's who mentioned that the Phenom quads are 2 dual cores and run differently. So, don't quote me, but it is interesting information.

The H50 is more expensive, but it is very quite and I like how much space it leaves in the case (for airflow and less clutter).

The reason I was so set on the asus crosshair was because I have always had crappy motherboards and wasn't so set on the top of the line cpu. But, like I said, link parts.

All recommendations are welcome.

Ignore corsairs instructions on the H50. Have the fan blowing air out of the case. Better to buy 2x good 120mm fans (scythe s-flex 2000rpm's come to mind) and have a push+pull configuration, with the fans running on max (if you get the scythe s-flex's they aren't loud at all)

After some browsing, how does this look?

I understand the 1090 x6 is better, but for a budget, the 1055 is fine and I've seen it overclocked on this motherboard to 4ghz with air cooling.

Only question is, the motherboard has an 8pin power connector, 4 pins of it are covered and people say you don't need all 8 pins for it to work. Is this true? or should I just invest in a psu with an 8 pin. Any recommendation if so?

Use the 8-pin, it helps keep the CPU voltage more stable when overclocking. As in it won;t fluctuate as much, which means it won't droop as much, which means you might not have to set it as high, which means better cooling performance.

Logic ;)

can i use any 8pin connector on my psu or does it have to be a specific power connector?

any psy recommendations?
