Dell Inspiron 9300 Memory

I'm looking to upgrade my ram and hard drive for my relatively ancient Dell. I want to put 2gb of ram and get an ext. hard drive for it. I have looked on New Egg, but I'm not sure what is compatible with my comp.

I think it is 200 PC2-4200, but I want to make sure before I buy. Thanks.

Yes it is DDR2 and since it is a laptop you'll need SODIMMs (so 200 pin like you thought). The speed can be either 400MHz (PC2-3200) or 533MHz (PC2-4200, may be listed as PC2-4300), although you should be ok putting faster modules in and they will clock down. The manual says it will take up to 1GB modules.

Thanks for the answers guys.

I saw this, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145172 ,
any reason why this wouldn't work and what is the difference, other than brand, between the two? I see the Crucial is "Dual Channel", is that something that is desired or something most have and just not stated?

I only am looking at the price difference between the two, but if the crucial is a little better I won't worry about $8.

The Corsair one is a single, 2GB stick, which won't work. The only way you can get 2GB is from 2 x 1GB, which is what john posted for you. The set he posted is 2 seperate sticks of memory, each with 1GB capacity, where as the one you posted is a single stick

Got it. Thanks for the quick answer.
