I need a decent temporary card. (preferably below the $75 pricepoint)

I'm trying to put together a budget build, and I decided instead of going with a GTX 460 right away I'll grab a lower priced nvidia card and then buy a 460 later. The temporary card will either be a extremely cheap card or a decent one that will be used for a PhysX card later.

I was thinking a GT 220. Opinions?

(I would really like to go the PhysX route)
 
See if you can get a cheap GTS 450 it's about equal to a 5750 performance wise. just get a stock non-overclocked reference design one to keep costs down.

The 450 would also make a great PhysX card compared to the 220
 
I saw an EVGA GT 240 out there for like $40 after MIR. Problem is, what is the return policy and all that with MIRs?

If my parents buy me parts Like I asked they will use those MIRs right away.

I think you have to redeem the MIR, it's kind of like a discount, you have to claim it within 8 weeks or so unless it's an instant rebate. I think warranty is the same as it would be without the MIR.

What do you mean? You can RMA it as long as the warranty covers it. e.g. if I hadn't infringed the warranty of a card and it broke then I could RMA it and they'd send me a new one.
Warranty is generally about 3 years.

Am I barking up the wrong tree?
 
If you do any gaming/video editing or any thing like that a good card (best bang for your buck) would be a 8600gt. $40 card (might be able to find it cheaper) It can play crysis at medium settings and still get 24FPS. If you do not game then you should get a 8400. Its a good card. It You can find the 8400 for 30 dollars. Make sure that your power supply is at least 300 watts.

GT 430 is a bit of a mediocrity, IMO. Not amazingly quiet, power draw is OK and performance is pretty dire.

Do you prefer nVidia cards?
Because HD 5570 is just a lower clocked HD 5670 which is about 30% slower than a HD 5770.
 
I could go ATi, I just wanted to go Nvidia so The card could be put to use for PhysX once I get a GTX 460 (or whatever the 5series equivalent is)

So If I OC'ed a 5570, could It be a 5670, pretty much?

Oh, sorry, you mentioned that in the OP. HD 5570 is about equal to a GT240, but has DX11 (which doesn't really matter with a less powerful card) It's a question of which you can find for cheaper. If same price, then get 240 for PhysX :good:
 
9800GT would be a step or so down from the GTS 250, but what about the GT240? I really like the price of the GT 240 i posted earlier.

A GTS250 is a rebadged 9800GTX+ which was a die-shrink of the 9800GTX which was a tweaked 9800GT. So a 250 is a bit better than a 9800GT, yes. A GT240 is roughly equal to a 9600GT, no?

GTS250>9800GT>GT240
