Build me a Cheap but Awesome PC

  • Budget is about £450
  • Would prefer a modular PSU
  • Main usage: School, multimedia, gaming (mostly RTS)
  • In the UK
  • No preference between AMD, Intel, nVidia, or ATi, whichever gives best bang-for-buck
  • I've listed components from different sites, whichever is cheapest overall I will use that site for all my components
  • Will be overclocking

I was thinking

CPU - Athlon II X4 640 - £75
(May get a higher clocked model if price is right)
Mobo - Asus M4A78LT-M 760G - £49
(Only one PCIe x16, not a problem, I won't be Xfire/SLi; will my cooler tower over one or more of the DIMM slots?)
GPU -
HIS ATi Radeon HD 5770
- £100
RAM - Corsair XMS3 2x2GB - £55
Case - Undecided, NZXT Beta Evo?
HDD -WD Caviar Blue 320GB - £28
(restock already overdue)
Optical - Super WriteMaster 22x SATA - £11
Cooler - Gelid Tranquillo - £24
or
CM Hyper 212+

Will go for whichever gives better cooling, if same, whichever is easiest to install. I was also thinking about the Contac 29.

EDIT: Forgot PSU.

The Beta EVO is fine, no worries there.

The Gelid is the better cooler, if only slightly.

You might want a faster hard drive...maybe a better mobo too.

Thought so. Daisy posted a faster HDD for same price, so that's sorted
I'd love to have a better mobo or even go 1156 but I'm on a very limited budget, and I don't have Win7, a monitor or kb/mouse yet.

Keep within less retailer as possible, or you will waste money on delivery.

case - you could consider elite 430. NZXT Beta Evo is good for its price

Samsung HD502HJ F3

Thanks, I think I'll get the 430 and the SpinPoint. Any other suggestions?

The 430's a good case, but cable management kind of sucks for a case with a side window.
