Memtest86 question

I am getting some read/write error when starting up a laptop and it's apparently caused by faulty RAM. I ran memtest86 v3.5 but I'm not sure what the results are telling me. The test finished in 2 seconds and told me "Unexpected Interrupt - Halting CPU0". It says "Pass 1%", "Test 10% ###", and says there are 5 errors. Does this mean the RAM isn't working? I took one RAM chip out from the laptop before running this test, should I have both RAM sticks inside and then run the test? Thanks!!

If it came up with errors with 1 stick, it would indicate that the stick is faulty. Run it with the other stick of memory in, and see if you get the same results. If you do, it is either the both sticks are faulty (most probably), or there is a possibility that your motherboard is, specifically the DIMM slot or your chipset

Okay, thanks for the reply. Could it be possible that both sticks of RAM are faulty and the motherboard is fine?

one way to find out is take the ram to another computer and tested or get a known good ram to try in the computer to see any error messaeges.

It's a laptop though, I have two other laptops here that may have similar RAM in them, I could try those, but I'm not sure.

Edit: Okay, I tested 1 RAM sick for an hour and it passed, I tested both at the same time and the test passed, I am testing the other stick now and it's not getting any errors... maybe by resetting the RAM sticks I fixed my RAM issue... hopefully I did.

Okay, I don't get any error messages when I boot up with one stick of RAM, the other stick must be faulty.
