New gaming computer, need help,480 or 5870?

Allright, trying to make my mind up on one of these two computers.

Not to clued up on graphics cards, as Im still using my Dell 2400 from 2004 :D

Time to get a good gaming machine to last a few years.

Ideas ?

Any help would be appreciated, these are two comps im looking at...


The 5870 -

PLEASE HELP ME DECIDE.
 
Probably because the GTX 480 is power hungry and produces a lot of heat. The GTX 580 is faster, uses less power and has better cooling (runs a bit cooler and quieter).

the gtx 580 is somewhat a simalar price i beleive and is better, around 20% better, performance wise. Also more efficient as stated.

the core i7 system is way better just ad in the 580 and you should def choose that one
 
Hynix RAM? Why?

Also, don't let that quote on the Antec Three Hundred fool you...its cable management is awful.
 
I wouldn't be looking at 5870's these days. The 6870 is 90'ish percent as effective and significantly less expensive. In crossfire the 6870 outperforms 5870 crossfire. I'd also at least wait a week to decide as AMD is set to release its competitor to the 580. If the 6850/70 are indicators, then the new AMD cards ought to be really solid.

Good points all around :)

A recent leaked benchmark showed the 6970 to be slightly faster than the 580, but that's still rumor at this point because it was some random chinese site. It should be somewhat close, though.
 
What country are you in?

Most english-speaking forums assume you're either in the US or the UK unless you say otherwise...

edit: Or Australia I suppose
 
I should edit my previous post to say that some of the 5870's are floating down to the $250 price range of the 6870. I'd still rather have the 6870 though as the my personal choice of 5870 is at $370 and the 6870 apparently crossfires better than the 5870.

i totally agree the 570 comes close to 480 and even beats it sometimes but the op said 580 isnt even out in that country so i doubt that the 570 is.
