Help Needed with new PC

im not entirely too sure if this is the right place to post for this. i've used this website for answers before and have appreciated the help. i think i've just got one more problem. i've only got about $450 maybe $500 to spend and wanted a whole new computer all together. i know i'm not going to get some fancy gaming computer with this kind of money, but i found a computer for $450 and wanted someone to look at the specs on it to see if it can run some older games. i dont expect it to be able to run the newest games like black ops, but it seems like a pretty good computer and i was just wondering if it could run a few older games, like call of duty 4 and older. im not really to picky about graphics settings on the game so if i have to run it on the lowest quality that doesn't really bother me too much. here's the link for the computer. thanks.

It will be much higher quality than anything an OEM can offer for the same price. Cod4 and black ops essentially use the same game engine, if you can max cod4 you should be able to do black ops on relatively high settings.

The GPU I chose may be overkill, but it will perform much better than a radeon 4200 integrated chip.
 
Thanks, I think I'm going to build a PC instead of just buying one. I was just wondering if you are sure all those parts listed above are compatible because the motherboard already has an integrated video card in it and I wasn't too sure if it was possible to have another video card if there's already one integrated into the motherboard. Plus I was also wondering if I needed a sound card?? Because I'm pretty sure there isn't one listed above.

Good idea ^
All those parts are compatible with one another. The motherboard has a integrated GPU but that doesn't mean you can't use a dedicated one; just turn off the integrated one in the BIOS if it doesn't turn off automatically. You don't need a sound card, the mobo has sound built-in. This GPU is cheaper at $124 after MIR, and is slightly faster than the GTS450 posted. Also, the board supports hybrid Crossfire, which basically means you can use the integrated GPU and the dedicated one together to increase performance (though not by much, the HD 4250 isn't very powerful)
 
I think that's all I need to know. But one more thing... I skimmed over the instructions on how to build this computer, and I don't think I saw anything about the PSU. I'm pretty new to all this stuff so for all I know the PSU doesn't even go into the computer. Thanks for the help.

lol, nevermind, i have another question. the hard drive doesn't come with an operating system. all i have to do is buy windows on a cd and put it in the disc tray. right??
 
now before i do this i wanted to know for sure so i dont go and mess everything up like i usually do. instead of buying windows and installing it on a new HDD, could i just get the old HDD out of my other computer, or would there be compatibility problems? that would be a lot easier because i wouldn't have to go buy another hard drive and windows again. the old HDD has windows XP (possibly service pack 3, idk) and if i would have to wipe out the memory then i dont mind either, i really dont have anything important on there anyway.
 
i posted a question on here a few minutes ago and its not popping up in the forums, i dont know if its some kind of delay or what, but basically my question was if i would use a HDD from my old computer rather than buying i new one and getting an operating system for it. the old HDD has windows XP on it and i dont mind having to wipe all my data on it because there was never anything usefull on there anyway.

EDIT: my other message did pop up. apparently i never noticed this went onto a second page.... oops....
