I revised my low budget gaming desktop pc and raised the budget as well. To ~$1000.00.

Any advice/knowledge on how this build looks and if it's worth it.

It looks OK, but it's unbalanced. The CPU and board are excellent choices, but the rest of the system seems underpowered in comparison. I'd wait for Sandy Bridge, but if you want it now, the I'd suggest -

i5-760 - $205
2 x 2GB DDR3 1600 - $60
Asus P7P55D-E - $120 after MIR
MSI GTX460N Talon Attack - $210
Antec TP New 650W - $90
Thermaltake Frio - $60
CM690 II Advanced - $80
Sony Optiarc - $20
SpinPoint F3 1TB - $70
Total: 855 USD after MIR
865 USD before MIR
People may tell you that LGA1156 is a dead-end upgrade path (which it is, the only step above the 760 is the 860/870), but the i5-760 beats more expensive AMD 6 core CPUs in all things gaming. You won't feel the need to upgrade your CPU any time soon.

However; while this is what I would recommend ATM, in a few weeks Intel's new CPU socket, LGA1155 will be out, personally I'd wait for that, if it recieves a good reception then come back here in January and we'll make you a lovely Sandy Bridge build. It LGA1155 goes badly, then just use the build above:good:
 
Couldn't I hold off on the Sony CD drive and the thermaltake? I have working CD drives from my old computer that I could use for a temporary drive?


I have a decent 19 inch acer and a 20 inch LCD Sony screen that I could work with until I save up extra cash for a nice monitor. I'm getting Windows as a gift so I'm good there. I also have speakers from my old computer I would use until probably summer, along with a mouse and keyboard.

Yes, you could, if the drives were SATA, I don't think the mobo picked has IDE (an older form of data cable)
Optical drives are dirt cheap anyway.
A cheaper CPU cooler - here
Load temps on the Hyper will tend to be about 5-10C hotter than the Frio, but it's an excellent value cooler that soundly thrashes the stock cooler
