Hello everyone, i'm new to this forum and i have a question about my i7.
I am currently running an intel i7 920 d0 at 4.08 ghz on core temps on full load at 75 degrees max. and on an air cooler. its stable and tested with prime 95. should i rethink this and lower my settings? because a coleage of mine said to me that overclocking it over 3.2 needs to be on watercooling. so what should i do? :s

Your colleague does not know what he's talking about.

well, totay ive had my first crash, after testing 24 hours it finaly crashed while playing crysis. everything looks fine, temps are good. i dont seem to find the problem with this. i will post my bios settings so maybe someone could help me with this.

cpu ratio 20.0
blk 200
cpu voltage 1.35000
cpu pll oltage 1.96
qpi/dram 1.35000

How long did you run Prime95 for? I usually only run it for about an hour while I'm trying to find a stable setting, but once I've settled on something, I let it run overnight, or for 12-18 hours, to know if it's really stable.

i ran p95 for 8 hours straight, zero crashes. but i adjusted my ram timings and everything seems to be fine now. core temps are below 75 degrees. so it seems ok to me. i wil post some detailed info tomorow.

cheers

75 doesn't seem too bad to me, under full load. When it comes to your cooling method, it doesn't matter what GHz you're running at. Just voltage. I believe that your voltage is fine for air cooling, so you're all set. :good:

1.35v is fine for a core i7, but it is the maximum voltage you can have before it voids the factory warranty(and/or could possibly kill the chip). Temperature should be fine, but if you can lower the voltage and keep stability you should see lower temperatures.
