I have a Dell XPS 400.
My current specs are 3.2 Ghz Pentium D Cpu, 2 Gigs of DDR2 RAM, and a BFG Ge Force GTS 250 OC. I am either upgrading the CPU to a Core 2 Duo 2.66 ghz, or the RAM to 4 gigs. I do heavy gaming, Fallout, Starcraft, Borderlands, etc. And I record sometimes with fraps for youtube. What would be the best upgrade for me?

The XPS 400 does not support the Core2Duo. You're better off building a new machine.
 
I am gonna break the mold with my answer. I am doing this because building a new machine could be kinda pricey. if you are already playing these games you know that your processor will support them. Thats why I say more RAM never hurts.
 
The CPU won't be THAT much faster than the one you have. A 3.2GHz Pentium D is roughly equivalent to your average 2GHz C2D. OF course there were several 2GHz C2D chips with varying levels or performance, but you get the idea. More RAM would be the better choice.


Also, According to Intel, The XPS 400 should support any of the 65nm Core 2 products.
 
How do you know? You can't go by Dell's product page...they don't update it, and C2D chips came out after the XPS 400 was released.
 
Doesnt really matter if the chipset supports it or not. If Dell never gave it a bios update for the newer processors support.
