update my ram

well its time to update my computer a little and i want to start off by updating my ram. I just want to make sure i am getting something that is compatible.

My motherboard is MSI p-35 neo2.
-dual channel ddr2
-4 DIMMS that support DDR2-800/667 up to 8GB

i want to fill it with 8gb but i don't want to buy the wrong type. whats the difference between 800 and 667?

it should work fine. it is a bit expensive though i would look for used ram

800 and 667 are speeds of the ram. the system crystal pulses at 166 or 200 MHz. the FSB is double pumped so that makes it 166*2=332 or 200*2=400. then the I/O of the RAM is doubled so that makes it 332*2=667 or 400*2=800.

It would work, however it is pointless to have that much, you are better off spending that money on upgrading your system to a more up to date socket with DDR3 memory. DDR3 is cheaper than DDR2 now, and no current sockets support DDR2, AM3, LGA1156 and LGA1366 are all on DDR3 memory
