Is this psu any good

Its a corsair CX430 for 31.99 pounds

http://www.dabs.com/products/corsair-memory-builder-series-cx430-430w-atx-psu-75S1.html

i know the general rule of thumb is that if it is cheap its crap but it's corsair so i'm wondering.

The CX line were quite high quality, the CX400W is better for you if you can find it. The CX430W isn't made with as high quality components, it's a Corsair, but not the parts that Corsair usually rebrand. It's the cheap and nasty replacement for the CX400W. You're better off getting a StealthXStream II.

if it is good will it power this

athlon II x3 445
hd4670
4gb ddr3 1333mhz
and asus M4N75TD

Yes, easily, even though it's not high quality, it's decent and not the worst you could pick

with any room for some small oc'ing?

Yes.

thanks

Have a look at this, this, or this instead. The OCZ units are not as high quality as the SeaSonic, but they're not bad and will provide more efficiency than the CX430W which is really a 380W PSU because 50W comes from the +3.3v and +5v that will never be used. The CX430W is CWT, not seasonic like some of it's other units

The OCZ units are CWT, the same as the CX430, and neither are low quality or inefficient, it is just that the older CX400 was higher quality than the CX430 is. A CX430 is still a good unit and plenty enough for the system he posted, but just not great

@OP It Will be plenty enough for your needs, though when you upgrade in future, if you go to a more power hungry graphics card or up your CPU + OC it, you will probably need to upgrade the PSU in your system to. If you intend for the system to stay around the same power usage (bare in mind with each generation of components comes greater efficiency, meaning more computational power for the same power usage, so power usage can stay the same but performance increase), it will be a great unit for some time, else I would look at going for something a bit more

Thanks all for the replies.
i'll see if i can order this or a similar unit soon.
This psu is simply to get it going for a while until i can afford the upgrades to make it into to a monster so i will def upgrade the psu first, :)

@Aastii

i dunno if this is old news, im not on here much atm but congrats on becoming a mod!!!!!

It is deffinately a good, cheap unit for temporary use. Out of interest, what sort of specs are you looking to have for the system you are building?

And thanks, was just over a month ago I think now :)

originally, when i have the money, i was going to go with gtx 460 sli, but i'm thinking maybe waiting for the gtx560 and maybe sli them, assuming there making one.
i choose this board because it had sli, i've been using ati/amd for a while and figured i want to go back to nvidia (last nvidia i had was a geforce 2). need to upgrade a few things first tho :)

I was prob going to use the athlon x3 for a while and when bulldozer comes out move to a phenom x6 due to the price drop.

thanks for the suggestion that psu is about the price in dollars as it is pounds, works out as around $80.00 for the uk price.

Also congrats to you linkin on becoming a vip member, i noticed before but now seems a good time to mention it :)

Just be aware, that GPU is not very powerful and should you wish to updgrade, you will probaby again need to buy a new PSU.

a CX430 will probably be able to power out anything up to a HD 5770, GTX 460 768MB if he's lucky

I wouldn't want to put it to that point personally, I know that 400W can power those cards, but it would be better to give a good 50-100W headroom at least, for the sake of efficiency and stress on the unit

Yeah i agree as i would like to oc both gpu and cpu in the future. I always want headroom

These new CX units are a fools game with Corsair (disappointed with them). The first ones were based off seasonic S12II units. Good little power supplies and a good price. Once they become a hit corsair dropped Seasonic and started making them under the CWT DSAII setup. Lower quality, less warranty, less amps, less efficiency, less coils, cheaper caps and mosfets. Need I say more?

Do NOT get a CX430. It is a cheap 300W unit with Chinese "SamXon" capacitors that disgraces Corsair's otherwise good reputation. Like Stranglehold said, the CX400 was a Seasonic S12II-based unit and was perfectly fine...why they replaced it is beyond me.

If you want a similar unit, one of these would be good:
Antec Neo ECO
Antec Earthwatts/Earthwatts Green
Seasonic SS
Seasonic S12II/M12II

You're overplaying this fact Drenlin. The CX430 is priced accordingly, and peforms well. It only has 2 year warranty as a result of the components that are in it, but it still is a reasonable unit.
