Don't over do it on the Thermal Paste, and if you're going to overclock it make sure you have an aftermarket cooler. Nice Parts, enjoy. :)
 
Nice rig.
For added precausions:
You could used cardboard or a wood workbench.
Be mindfull of the static build up in clothing.
Wear a wrist strap and make sure your grounded when you pick up a part.
Use the anti-static bags the parts come in to lay the parts on.
Install the I/O panel and fans 1st.
Make sure you have the stand-offs in the right places with no extras.
Don't scratch up the back of the mb with the installed standoffs or anything when you put it in.
Do a "dry run" with the mb to get familiar with how to position it to the I/O panel
and possible fan positioning.
Install the cpu and cooler to the mb, then the mb.
Overtightening the mb screws can damage it. Sometimes the plastic on a fan can split if you overtighten or go too fast with course threaded fan screws..
 
Don't forget with thermal paste, you want to but a bb sized dot on the centre of the CPU. Do not spread it with anything, use the CPU cooler to spread the paste when you mount it.

Doing it any other way introduces air gaps which is bad for thermal performance.
 
I installed my motherboard correctly (I hope) and installed the CPU. I smeared some paste on the surface but it is very thinly spread, just enough to cover all the surface. Should I apply more? I also sat the processor in position to make sure it would fit. When I take it off again will I need to apply more paste? I also had trouble closing the CPU mechanism... going to try again now.
 
May have made a mistake- there's thermal compound of some sort on the processor that I didn't clean before applying the paste (processor still not installed). How should I clean it?

Take it all off with isopropyl alcohol and use the method I posted before. spreading it yourself creates air gaps which is bad.
 
So remove the compounds from both the CPU and the processor, squeeze a little compound onto the CPU and without spreading it install the processor?
 
Ummm... just a safety check here, but you're putting the compound between the processor and the cooler, right, not between the processor and the motherboard.
 
When I apply the paste and prepare to close the CPU locking mechanism, I'm having trouble. I am following the directions on the manual but it seems to be requiring a LOT of force to snap the cage shut. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

There should be a bit of resistance. That's normal. Just be sure you have the CPU seated in the socket correctly. If you're having an issue, shoot me an IM on AIM. Same screenname as CoFo.

It seems as tho you've have put the thermal paste between the cpu and the MB. If so,,,disaster. :(

I really hope he didn't do that.
 
It took me all night but I finally have everything installed. Next I have to wire everything and I'm completely clueless. Going to need some serious help...
 
It's not bad, pretty much everything fits only where it goes. Some tips:

Plug the hard drive's SATA cable into either of the white SATA ports on the mobo (you'll see they're labeled as the 6GB/s ones), and the DVD drive's SATA cable into any of the black ones...or even a white one, if you want, but there's no sense in that.

The connectors from the case's front panel should be marked, as well as the spots they go in on the motherboard. Look at the mobo's user manual if you have any doubts...there's almost always a diagram or eight in there.

Be careful not to confuse the 8-pin PCI-e connector for the graphics card with the 8-pin power connector for the CPU. They're physically different, so you can't connect either one in the wrong spot, but they do look very similar.

Run everything you can behind the motherboard tray. This gives a much cleaner look, and more importantly, helps your airflow. There are many guides on the net that show cable management on your exact case...google should turn up some good ones. :)

When you can, check the temps on your cpu, just to make sure there's not too much/little paste.(it will run a tad warmer till it cures)
