I want to buy and install Windows 7 or fix XP

I have a problem. I have a Dell Studio Slim computer that came with Vista. I don’t like Vista and would like to buy and install Windows 7 Home Premium but we are talking about £100 outlay and I’m worried that it won’t work on the Dell comp. I reinstalled Windows XP but it doesn’t work properly, like drivers are missing or something. I’d be happy with XP if I could get it to work properly. The only solution I can see at the moment is to buy and install Windows 7.

Of course there will be missing drivers because XP won't have all the drivers needed. Look in device manager for any devices with yellow question marks, which means drivers need to be installed for those devices to work correctly.

Thank you for your response. I have tried to find drivers for things on device manager highlighted in yellow but messages are coming up saying nothing is available or the best drivers are already installed. I’m back on my old comp at this time running windows XP. I have this almost new Dell comp sitting here doing nothing because I can’t get XP to work properly on it. I’ve been reading on the net and the message seems to be that the Dell studio Slim doesn’t support XP. So… I went on the net and read up on Windows 7. I thought it was just a case of buying it and installing it but now I’m reading about 32.. And 64... And checking to see if my comp is compatible. I’m just really confused and need some straight answers. I can clean up a comp and I can install and uninstall. I’ve reinstalled the operating system XP a few times, but that’s it. That’s all I know about computers. So I would be very grateful for any help you can offer me. Thanks.

Thank you. It’s late here but I’m going to set up the Dell comp tomorrow and give XP another go using the link above to find drivers. Thanks again.

I hope you don’t mind if I come back with more questions?

If it supports Vista, it'll work with 7. Cheers.
