Computer is running XP SP3; anti-virus is Security Essentials.
On December 12, (Judging by dates on everything that relies on an internet connection to see the date) The internet on a friend's computer stopped working. Up until that point, they had been having trouble where everytime they wanted to connect to the internet, they had to go through the IE diagnostic tool/fix. They also reported Security Essentials would not update properly.
They called their ISP and their ISP did a bunch of stuff on their end and said that the computer is technically connected to the internet, and that the computer needs a clean-up. That's where I come in.
I tried starting in safe mode, but MSE won't update in safe mode even with networking enabled. I then noticed even in safe mode, I wasn't able to connect to anything.
Off to the control panel I go. Found the connection, and it shows it is connected and working fine. Hmmm, router restart? Did it. So then I went into properties to see if I could manually refresh to connection under TCP/IP and low and behold, I get this : In order to configure TCP/IP, you must install and enable a network adapter card.
Which is fine, I am assuming the drivers for the NVIDIA nForce netowkring controller got deleted by a virus or bad service on the ISP's side.
My question is though, how do I go about getting said drivers without an internet connection on the problem PC? Can I get dedicated drivers from NVIDIA for the device, or is it one of those things where I need to OS/MoBo CD with the drivers on to repair?
Thanks!
